Antique R. Fuess Electrical Voltage Recorder in Good Condition. Germany, 1900

Antique R. Fuess electrical voltage recorder in magnificent condition, possibly intended for use on telegraph lines. This device was manufactured in Germany around 1900 and has survived to the present day in very good condition. The recorder is housed in a beautiful, weatherproof mahogany case with glass panels and features a clockwork mechanism. The mechanism works perfectly.

The recorder consists of a brass roller connected to a clockwork mechanism that causes it to rotate. The cables are connected to the electrical current, and the pointer records voltage fluctuations, plotting them in ink on the paper. The wooden and glass case protects the mechanism from any external damage. The mahogany wood is in excellent condition. On the top, there is a metal plate bearing the manufacturers name, R. Fuess, and the serial number 2739.

History of R. Fuess

Heinrich Rudolf Ludwig Fuess (18381917) was a German mechanical engineer who designed precision instruments in various fields, particularly meteorology and petrography. In 1865, Fuess founded a workshop in Berlin to manufacture and market his designs. Among other products, the company produced microscopes and blood pressure monitors. Beginning in 1875, they also began manufacturing optical devices and anemometers. In 1877, the firm acquired Greiner & Greissler and expanded production, beginning to manufacture thermometers and barometers as well. Within a few years, R. Fuess became the leading manufacturer of precision meteorological instruments in all of Germany. In 1913, Rudolf Fuess handed over control of the company to his son and business partner, Paul.
