French Silver Chalice, Paten and Cruet Set with Enamel and Precious Stones. 19th Century
A luxurious and spectacular French set for the celebration of the Eucharist, consisting of a chalice, paten, tray, and cruets. This piece was crafted in the late 19th century from solid enameled silver, precious stones, cut glass, and gilded metal. The chalice is a stunning piece, made of hallmarked solid silver, and featuring a cup and base decorated with hand-painted enamel medallions. The medallions are in impeccable condition, without a single flaw, and their colors are as vivid and brilliant as when they were first created. The chalice's design is truly spectacular, with silver filigree covering almost the entire piece except for the rim of the cup.
On the cup, we can also see three original rubies weighing 0.75 carats each, while the base features another six rubies, weighing 0.90 carats each, for a combined total of just over 7.5 carats. For its part, the knop is adorned with five beautiful amethysts. The richness of this decoration is perfectly complemented by the marvelous enamels that adorn the base and the cup. Three scenes from the life of Jesus Christ are depicted on the base: the Nativity, the Baptism, and the Crucifixion. Among the scenes, we see the symbol of the Sacred Heart, the nails and the crown of thorns, and an image of two birds drinking from a chalice (an ancient image associated with the concept of the sacred, which was already depicted by early Christians in the catacombs).
On the cup, we can also make out three medallions featuring images of Saint Joseph, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary. The chalice is made entirely of solid silver and is hallmarked throughout. The paten is also made of silver and features a delicate decoration with the monogram of Jesus Christ, IHS, in the center. The set includes two delicate cruets made of cut glass, gilded metal, and enamel on the base, as well as a gilded metal tray (also featuring enameled rosettes) designed to carry the pieces. All items are stored in a black case lined with red felt. The set is complete and in magnificent condition, a rare feature that makes it an exceptional piece.
Lovers of religious antiques and the most beautiful pieces will find this Eucharistic set to be a one-of-a-kind item, worthy of the finest collections.
