Stunning Irish Neo-Gothic Chalice with Paten. Solid Silver with Enamel, 1907. With Dedication and Wooden Case

This stunning set consisting of a chalice and paten, both made of solid silver and housed in their original wooden case, dates from 1907 and has been preserved in excellent condition. The chalice is a spectacular piece in the Neo-Gothic style, adorned with colored enamel on the base, stem, and knop; it is likely of Irish origin. Its medieval-inspired style is balanced and elegant, and the profusion of enameled motifs creates a piece full of color and great decorative power. The chalice is accompanied by a paten, also made of solid silver, decorated with an attractive engraving depicting the Lamb of God carrying a banner bearing the Cross of St. Olaf.

The chalice is of undeniable beauty, both for its solid and harmonious design and for the engravings and enamels that adorn it. The base is hexagonal in shape, and each of its six sections features an enameled medallion. The scenes depicted are the Crucifixion, with the Virgin Mary and Saint John; the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus; and four medallions featuring the Four Evangelists and their respective symbols. All scenes are set against a cobalt blue background on a gold base and feature red and green decorations. The unglazed surface is profusely decorated with hand-carved motifs inspired by plants.

The stem of the chalice is a particularly beautiful feature, featuring two knops (an upper, main knop and a smaller one between it and the base) and profusely enameled. The lower knop is adorned with set pearls, while the upper one features a series of blue-enameled letters spelling out the word "IESUS," with a red cross. At the base of the chalice, we can see the following inscription: IN PERPETUAL MEMORY OF MY DEAR MOTHER WHO DIED 29 JANUARY 1907. This inscription, rendered in Irish-style lettering, provides a clue as to the date of creation of this beautiful set and its origin, since it bears no hallmarks, neither on the chalice nor on the paten. However, every single piece has been tested, and the results confirm that they are all made of solid silver.

The chalice and paten are housed in a beautiful solid oak case, custom-made to fit both pieces and of unquestionable elegance.
