This exquisite set of chalice and paten for the celebration of the Eucharist is a truly unique piece, due to its age and understated beauty. Both items originate from France and were crafted in the 19th century. The items display various hallmarks that attest to the authenticity, quality, and origin of the silver from which they were crafted. The set is in excellent condition and comes in its original case, a factor that has greatly contributed to the chalice and paten reaching us today while retaining all their beauty and style.

The chalice is a very attractive piece, displaying great simplicity in its design. The base is conical and very wide, tapering gradually toward the knop until it becomes a slender stem. An elegant Latin cross is engraved on its front, the only motif carved on the entire silver surface. The stem features three knops: a central one that is wider and more prominent, and two others, one above and one below. The rim of the cup's base is lobed, creating delicate semicircular shapes that follow one another to form a dynamic border. The cup itself is completely smooth and gilded on the inside.

The paten is also a very simple piece, with a single engraved decoration in its center featuring the IHS monogram, representing Jesus Christ-and the symbol of the Sacred Heart. Both items, the chalice and the paten, bear different hallmarks: one of them, diamond-shaped, displays the inscription "A. RENAU" inside, accompanied by a set of scales and a star. The case in which the two pieces are stored is lined on the inside with red velvet; on the inside of the lid, a black and gold label bears the inscription "BRONZES ET ORFÈVRERIE D'ÉGLISE VALLÉE A CAEN."
