Antique French Gilded Silver Chalice. 19th century. Hallmarked throughout

Beautiful French chalice made entirely of solid gilded silver in the 19th century. The chalice is hallmarked on its base and on the cup, certifying that it is made entirely of solid silver. The silver retains its delicate original golden hue both on the exterior and interior of the cup, and the hand-engraved details that adorn it are delicate and elegant.

The cup rests on a series of leaves that extend from the stem, as if it were the calyx of a flower. The leaves delicately surround and support the cup, extending to halfway up its height. This same leaf motif is reproduced in the engraving on the base of the chalice, which has a lobed shape and is hand-engraved with the aforementioned leaves and a Greek cross on one of the lobes. The knop, meanwhile, features a different, more deeply engraved, geometric decoration: this section displays a series of rhombuses, each containing an engraved symmetrical four-petaled flower surrounded by small lines and dots.

Both the cup and the base bear hallmarks that certify the quality of the silver and indicate its origin. On the base there are two hallmarks; on one of them, the inscription "CHEVRON" is written in capital letters, while on the exterior of the cup, near the rim, there is another hallmark. Lovers of religious art will find this piece a true treasure.
