Set of French Chalice and Silver Paten from 1900. Hallmarked and in Its Original Case

Beautiful set of chalice and paten made of solid silver, partially gilded, crafted in France in 1900. Both pieces are presented in their original case, thanks to which they have been preserved in excellent condition. The chalice and paten are made of first-grade silver and bear hallmarks attesting to their origin, both on the cup and on the stem. The chalice is beautifully crafted, featuring simple and elegant decoration with plant motifs and Greek crosses. The cup is gilded on both the inside and outside.

The cup rests on a base that extends from the stem of the chalice; this base is formed by simple, stylized leaves that serve a function similar to that of a flower's calyx, supporting the cup as if it were a corolla. Below the cup is the knop, featuring a beautifully executed, symmetrical floral decoration. Below this larger knop is a smaller one from which the wide base of the chalice extends; this secondary knop is decorated with leaves similar to those on the cup. Finally, the lobed base features a beautiful engraved plant motif and relief.

The paten is decorated with a large Greek cross surrounded by a fine circular border. Both the chalice and the paten bear various hallmarks that indicate the origin and quality of the silver from which they are made. Both items are presented in their original case, a box lined with maroon faux leather on the outside and red felt on the inside. The case is slightly worn but has effectively fulfilled its purpose, as the chalice and paten have survived to the present day in magnificent condition.

This chalice and paten set is a true marvel, destined to be part of any self-respecting collection of sacred art or to be reconsecrated and returned to the Church.
