Solid Silver Chalice and Paten Set for Military Use, 1930s. In Original Leather Case

Antique set of solid silver chalice and paten, made in France in the 1930s for military use. Both pieces feature a simple design and bear very little engraved decoration, a characteristic common to religious artifacts intended for military use. The chalice is a particularly remarkable piece, not only for its beauty and the value of the precious metal from which it is crafted, but also because it can be disassembled for convenient storage in the case.

Both the chalice bowl and the paten are hallmarked. The chalice's design is simple: aside from the turned details on the stem and the knop, the only embellishment is a Greek cross set within a round mandorla engraved on the base. The same cross, but larger, is also engraved on the paten. The set formed by both pieces is very attractive and understated, in keeping with the item's military character.

The interior of the chalice bowl, as is customary, is gilded in a rich hue that contrasts effectively with the rest of the piece. Once disassembled into three parts (base, stem, and bowl, which are joined by threads), the chalice can be stored together with the paten inside the original case for transport. This case is made of brown leather and has been preserved in very good condition. On the outside, it closes with a leather strap fitted with a metal buckle, which also serves as a handle for carrying it.

The originality of this chalice and paten set, the intrinsic value of the pieces, and their magnificent state of preservation make this item a truly unique object, of great interest to any collector of religious antiques or items related to military life.
