Antique T & H Doublet Protractor. England, 19th century

A charming antique T. & H. Doublet protractor, in good condition and in its period case. This is an original 19th-century piece, manufactured in England and used in technical fields such as engineering, architecture, and navigation. Although it is in working condition, the protractor is missing a small part from the fine-adjustment wheel that clamps onto the protractor.

The protractor is made entirely of brass. The metal is in very good condition, with no traces of rust or signs of significant deterioration. It consists of a spoked wheel and two side plates, which can be folded. Engraved on one of the brass spokes is the inscription T. & H. Doublet 6 Moorgate St Manufactory 7 City Road. The firm T. & H. Doublet was registered in London in 1853 with an address on City Road, for the manufacture of optical instruments and equipment. In 1868, they moved the business to Moorgate Street. In addition to the aforementioned items, they were also known as manufacturers of barometers.

As mentioned earlier, the protractor comes in its original period case. It is a delicate solid mahogany box, with an interior lined in red velvet. The wood is in excellent condition. On the base of the case, we can see an old, slightly deteriorated label with the handwritten inscription Rapporteur Anglais.

This beautiful, antique English protractor is a piece of unique scientific and historical interest, as well as a magnificent display item.
