Genuine Spanish Falange Badge in Enameled Metal. Spain, 40's

This piece is a pin manufactured for the Spanish Phalange Party in the 19403. It was designed to be shown off in the lapel by the members of the organization, founded in 1933 by José Antonio Primo de Rivera and that in 1934 would merge with the JONS. The pin is original from those times, a real antique full of historic interest. It is made of red enameled golden metal and is shaped as the symbol of the Phalange party: a yoke in front of a bundle of arrows. It is very well preserved, with the enamel in good condition and with no visible flaws. As stated before, the pin depicts the yoke and the arrows that make up the symbol of the fascist organization. This is not a new symbol but is inspired by the one chosen by the Catholic Kings to show their unity. The yoke corresponds to Queen Isabels initial (Y for yugo, yoke), and the F to King Fernandos initial (F for flechas, arrows). In the early times of the JONS (an organization that would soon merge with the Phalange party), the symbol was adopted after the suggestion of Juan Aparicio López. He was attending university classes and had heard his professor Fernando de los Ríos saying that if fascism had been born in Spain, this would have been its symbol. In this particular image, differently from the one that identified the Catholic Kings, the arrows are pointing upwards. The red enamel that decorates the piece covers almost the whole surface except for a slim golden frame that makes the shapes stand out. On the other hand, the arrows and the yoke are outlined by a dark shade that provides them with depth. These details, together with the pins ancient age and authenticity, turn it into a highly interesting piece for any collector.
