This magnificent oil on canvas is a painting performed in the 18th century, original from the time and masterfully painted. It is an excellent reproduction of the painting The Money Tribute (Cristo della Moneta), an oil on wood painted in 1518 by for the Duke of Ferrara Alphonse I, an aristocrat that would keep on buying works from the Venetian painter. The picture depicts the moment (described in the Bible) when Simon argues with the people that were accusing Jesus of not paying taxes. In that moment, Jesus Christ settles the debate with the famous sentence: Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. Titian (Tiziano Vecelli or Vecellio, 1477-1576) is one of the most important artists in the history of mankind and in the history of pictorial art in particular. He is especially renowned as a member of the Venetian school and his work is scattered all over the world, being present in the most important picture galleries. One of the museums that can exhibit paintings of Titian is the Museum of Prado in Madrid (Spain). Titian is one of the most skillful and versatile painters of the European Renaissance. His work comprises portraits, landscape backgrounds, religious subjects and mythological scenes. He was a recognized artist when alive and worked really hard; his paintings show a notable evolution, with a relevant difference between his former and latter works. The picture that this striking oil on canvas reproduces is currently in the Gemäldegalerie of Dresden, Germany. Titian is one of the most coveted artists nowadays: in 2011 a picture by him was sold in New York for over $16 million. The picture that we can see in the photographs even reflects the artists signature, TIZIANO V., written in Simons robes collar (the figure to the right). The painting is wonderfully performed, showing a loose brushwork and a color depth up to the Venetian masters works. The painting has been carefully restored and shows a fine repair at the back. This oil on canvas from the 18th century is bound to be exhibited in a stylish room, filling it with beauty, quality and class. Measurements: Width: 12.9 in/33 cm. Height: 15.9 in/40.5 cm.
