Great medal, Order of Military Merit White Distinctive, which was awarded to Jose Antonio Serrano Montalvo, Local Chief of the SEU (Spanish University Sindicate) in Pro-Franco Fascist Spain. The set is formed by four pieces delicately made of noble metals and high quality materials, carefully enameled and engraved. The high material and historical value of these pieces is enhanced by the fact that the set is kept into an original luxury case, in great condition, (base velvet renewed) personalized with a solid silver plate engraved with the name and the post of the awarded. This is a set of medals among which the Plate and Breast Cross stand out. They are accompanied by two miniatures. The Plate and Cross, and also one of the miniatures, are made of gilded silver, and the other miniature is of solid gold. The Plate shows an spectacular work, with a beautiful background of golden rays on which the white cross lays, surrounded by delicate silver figures depicting towers and rampant lions, symbols of Spain and that can be found in the Spanish flag. On the case, made of reddish wood beautifully polished, there is a plate which personalizes the piece showing the following inscription: Al Excmo. Señor D. José Antonio Serrano Montalvo, Gobernador Civil y Jefe Provincial Movimiento Los Consejeros Provinciales Lérida, Abril de 1964. This inscription lets us know that the medal was awarded to Antonio Serrano Montalvo. Born in Jaén, this lawyer was Local Chief of the SEU (Spanish University Sindicate) and Civil Governor of Lerida, post that was awarded to him in 1960, as we can read on the ABC newspaper published the 6th of March of that year. The Order of Military Merit is a Spanish medal which is awarded to members of the Army and the Civil Guard, but also to civil persons, in reward for actions, deeds o services of a distinguished merit. The Grand Cross (plate), on the other hands, is awarded to officers and civil staff with an institutional, administrative or professional rank. The White Distinctive implies the realization of merits, works or distinguished services during missions or services commended to the Armed Forces o related to Defense in some way during peace period.
