Antique Needle Telegraph for Railway Environments. England, Circa 1900

Superb antique needle telegraph for railway environments, made in England circa 1900 and in awesome condition. It is complete and preserves the front wooden tray, a piece which is usually missing. These telegraphs were used in England during the 19th century for the communication between railway stations. The original design was created in Russia by Pavel Schilling, but William F. Cooke and Charles Wheatstone improved the design and started producing the devices in England. They were immediately adopted by some railway companies. The telegraph that can be seen in the images is made of solid mahogany wood, in great condition and with a fine French-polish finish which enhances its color. The mechanism, the reels and the wiring are original and greatly preserved, clean and complete. Together with the telegraph, a photocopy of an instruction booklet from 1906 is provided, essential to understand its manipulation.

As good-looking as historic, this antique needle telegraph for railway environments will shine in the most special place.
