Wonderful oil painting on canvas performed in the 20th century and in excellent condition. The picture reproduces with high detail the cubist-futurist work Portrait of a Philosopher, painted in 1915 by the Russian artist Liubov Popova and which is considered one of her masterworks. The original picture belongs to the Collection of the Museum of St. Petersburg and depicts the painters brother. The figure is unstructured in different planes following the premises of the Futurism and the Cubism. This particular picture is wonderfully painted and even reproduces the painters signature and the date (1915) in the bottom right corner of the canvas. Liubov Popova is a relevant name in the art of the 10th century, both Russian and European. In the beginning the artist started painting impressionist works but she soon was attracted by avant-garde movements such as the French Cubism or the Italian Futurism. In 1913 she painted Composition with Figures, experimenting with the particularly Russian development of Cubo-Futurism. The picture that we can see in these photographs is a great reproduction of one of the best works she painted, and one of the most relevant paintings of the Russian Cubo-Furturism. Liubov Popova joined the Constructivist movement that emerged from the Russian Revolution and was one of the most active artists of those times together with other important artists such as Malevich, Rodchenko or Tatlin. Their works of art were intended to be enjoyed and used by the people and they designed scenographies, textiles, clothes, public places, etc. In 2009 Rodchenko/Popova: Defining Constructivism, an exhibition of the work of Popova, Rodchenko and other Constructivists was shown at Tate Modern, London, and subsequently at Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid. This oil on canvass beautiful making and the elegant balance it boasts turn it into a powerfully decorative piece, painted by hand and of an undeniable quality.Measurements: Width: 19.8 in/50 cm.
