This striking vintage horn gramophone has been fully restored in order to show off its impressive look. It is a Polyphon gramophone and was made in Germany in 1910, having survived to our days complete and in quite good condition. The motor has been revised and it sounds wonderfully, providing an unbeatable reproduction quality. Both the box and the horn are made of wood; this last one is a spectacular piece, highly beautiful and decorated by hand with delicate painted motives. The satin finish that protects the wood has also been restored and nowadays the gramophone looks as smart as the first day, being a very decorative and functional piece. At the boxs front we can see a big stamp printed on the wood in red and gold. It shows clearly the manufacturing brands name, Polyphon. This company is known mainly for its musical boxes but they also manufactured magnificent gramophones as the one we are looking at. The firm was founded in 1889 by Gustave Brachhausen (foreman of the Symphonion music box company) in partnership with engineer Paul Riessner. The quality of their music boxes was surely imitated in their gramophones, something that we can assure by looking at the wonderful model we can see in these photographs. The gramophone box is made of oak wood and is only decorated by a molded base and some simple carved details, both in the corners and the edge of the plateaus base. The striking horn is much more remarkable, being undoubtedly the starring piece of the gramophone: with lobed shape, each piece is made of curved wood, probably walnut. Inside the horn, the rounded end of each piece is decorated with hand-painted flowers and leaves. In the center of this garland we can see a wide beige ribbon. This gramophone incredibly good sound and spectacular design turn it into a unique piece, worthy to belong to a lover of the best vintage musical reproducers.Measurements: Width: 310 mm.
