Gipsy Portable Gramophone, 1920s.

This curious item is a Gipsy pocket gramophone made by Gipsy Phonos in 1920. It is a rare piece, fully original and in working order. Gipsy gramophone was considered the smallest gramophone in the world at the time, and when it is closed it requires a minimal space. This particular model keeps all its original parts and components: it can be perfectly used to play records of any size. The sound is heard at low volume, as the speaker is very small and the playing speed is irregular. Nevertheless its sound quality is not this gramophones most relevant feature: it stands out as a collectors piece, as it is a rare machine quite difficult to find.The gramophone can be stored into a small rectangular brown leather case. The case is somewhat distressed because of the trace of time. This feature is part of the devices life and history and testifies for its authenticity. Even so, the case keeps the original leather strap designed to carry the gramophone together with the lock and the original metal parts. When open, the case shows the different components of the gramophone conveniently stored in their corresponding compartments.The case itself contains the motor and the turntable, with the reproducer stored in a side compartment. The inside of the lid has a leather straps that holds the crank, the foldable horn and the metal stand that holds it in its place. All this components can be easily connected in order to assemble the gramophone and play records anywhere. The reproducer bears the name of the manufacturing brand, GIPSY PHONOS, printed in white lettering on a black background.
