Mikiphone Pocket Gramophone. Year 1924. With its original box and instructions.

Curious Swiss Pocket phonograph Mikiphone, made in the 1920s and in very good condition. This article works really well and is a very special piece because its particular configuration and its undeniable charm. The Mikiphone was patented in 1924 by Vadász brothers and was commercialized as the smallest pocket phonograph in the world, something that was surely true. The Swiss accuracy of its design is one of its most remarkable features: the horn, bakelite cylinder indeed, is attached directly to the reproducer. The whole device can be stored into a small round tin box. Some people think that the name Mikiphone is due to the phonographs look when it is unfolded: it looks like the silhouette of Mickey Mouses head. Actually this cartoon was not yet widely recognized in the 1920s, so this is probably just a curious coincidence. When it is folded, the phonograph can be stored into a simple tin box which comes in its original case, which has red velvet linen inside. On the cover we can read the words Pocket Phonograph MIKIPHONE - System Vadász Patented in all countries. Once unfolded, the Mikiphone can reproduce 25 cm diameter records. At the back of the box we can see the serial number engraved in the metal: 26-0037924. Inside there is a drawing which tells us how the parts must be disposed in order to operate the device. The reproducer is original and bears the following inscription: MIKIPHONE Pocket Phonograph Swiss Made System Vadász. All this fantastic phonographs parts are original and in perfect working order, and they provide a high-quality reproduction. When we put all the parts into the box, the Mikiphone only occupies 112 cm, a slightly bigger size than a big pocket watch. This particular configuration and the good condition it shows turn this article into a very singular piece, which will surely be the perfect gift for a music lover who likes curious antiques.
