Authentic Inquisition torture mask, spectacular and 100% original, made in Rome in 1810. This impressive piece is a rare testimony of past times and impressively terrifying. This is a mask that was presumably used by that terrible institution that was the Catholic Inquisition. It is a piece whose function has nothing to do with the essential values and foundations of the Catholic Church, based on Love, Charity and Forgiveness. The Catholic Church is mainly Lights, and there are also Shadows in its History. This mask of torture is part of the shadows of History. We must remember that in the past there were people who used torture, pain and death in the name of God. And we must remember to never again allow a religious institution to torture a human being in the name of any God, no matter what name is used to address Him. It does not matter what name is given to Him.God is Love. And anything that is not Love is not God. This piece is a reminder of those shadows of History, Witness and Protagonist of those Shadows of History, far removed from the Lights, which are many more. The mask is perfectly preserved and all the moving parts are easy to handle. Its size corresponds to that of a human head, to which it is attached by opening the screws at the bottom. The mask is made of solid strips of cast iron, shaped with anvil and hammer and joined together by rivets. There is a perimeter strip to which two frontal horizontal bands are joined, which would be placed over the face. At the back, a vertical piece closes the assembly. The two frontal bands have movable screws with pieces to press different points, such as the eyes or the mouth. The structure has similar screws to exert pressure on the temples and the nape of the neck, which gives us the measure of the terrible effect that the piece generated in the people on whom it was used.On one of the iron bands we can see an inscription in capital letters, engraved by hand in a crude and rudimentary way. The inscription reads: ME FECIT 1810 (I was made in 1810), ROMAE (in Rome) which means that the mask was used during the last decades of existence of the Inquisition, which disappeared in 1834. On the front, also hand drawn, is engraved the acronym IHS, Iesus Hominum Salvator, Jesus Savior of Men. These details make it a terrifying and unique piece, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of anyone. This authentic Inquisition torture mask, spectacular and 100% original, is destined to be part of a museum of history or the best collection of rare and special antiques.
