Striking Spanish heavy cavalry sword model 1832 made of steel and brass. This beautiful arm was made in Toledo, Spain in 1851 and has survived to our days in quite good condition. The swords blade bears an inscription near the hilt with the place and year of manufacturing: Artillería Fábrica de Toledo Año de 1851 (Artillery Factory of Toledo Year of 1851). On the other hand, the brass hilt bears the factorys mark with the inscription F.DTOLEDO. The Factory of Swords of Toledo was a real referent in the European sword industry for more than two hundred years. Until the 18th century there was not factory as such, but several sword-makers that used to forge these weapons in the Castilian city. In 1761 the king Carlos III established the foundation of a Royal Factory of Swords that gathered all the makers in town. After going through all kind of trouble caused by wars, the factory ended its production in the 1980s and its buildings were used to create a university campus. This lovely artillery sword mounts a brass hilt made in the Factory of Swords with a mark that guarantees its origin. The hilt is extremely attractive, with a guard composed of four wavy quillons that open in a fan-like way and end in the pommel that covers the top of the grip. This is made of wood and covered by leather, preserving the original brass wire. The blade is also in very good condition, showing just slight signs of the trace of time and use. As elegant as solid, this sword from Toledo is a historic piece worthy of a museum of war antiques. Measurements: Blade: 43.3 in/88 cm. Sword (with hilt): 34.6 in/110 cm.
