Stunning antique mounted artillery troopers saber model 1895. The saber was forged in the Edged Weapons Factory of Toledo, Spain in 1893. Though being a very ancient weapon, the saber is in quite good condition and boasts an attractive aesthetic. It comes with its original steel scabbard, also well preserved, and the design of the hilt is beautiful and discreet. At the top of the blade we can see the engraved mark of the Edged Weapons Factory Artillery in one side, while the other side bears the Castile and Leon coat of arms with the royal crown on top engraved in the metal. The Edged Weapons Factory of Toledo was created by order of the Spanish King Carlos III after being crowned. The monarchs purpose was to reactivate the sword manufacture industry that had been so relevant in the city over the centuries and was then declining. In order to achieve it, in 1762 the first factory was inaugurated in the Casa de la Moneda (Toledo Mint) though years later it was moved to the outskirts of the city, on the banks of Tagus river. The factory reached high peaks and suffered invasions by the French troops during the Spanish War of Independence, though from 1830 it recovered its strength and prestige. Nowadays the building houses the University Campus of Toledo. The beauty of this saber is particularly well reflected in the hilt. The grip is covered by two wooden pieces decorated with a hand-carved diamond motive. These pieces are attached to the weapon by two rivets. The piece grip is wavy, in order to enhance the grip. The cross-guard and the quillon are part of the same metal piece; they create an elegant curve that ends in the pommel. Under the cross we can see the coat of arms and the inscription stated before, two details that provide the saber with quality and attractive. The blade is in very good condition, shiny and with no traces of rust, and the scabbard is complete and quite well preserved. The best collectors of antique weapons will appreciate the historic value and the beautiful design of this ancient saber. Measurements: Sword: Length: 39.7 in / 101 cm. Scabbard: Length: 33.2 in / 84.5 cm.
