Stunning antique sword forged in Spain in 1816. This is a cavalry sword that belonged to a member of the Personal Corps Guard of King Fernando VII of Spain. The sword that we can see in the images shows off a sober design, with flat even blade and delicately molded hilt. The most attractive part of this antique weapon is surely the hilt with its curved brass D-guard divided in several quillons or branches. The D-guard curves and becomes the cross-guard; at the top, it trims the grip and s the classic pommel. The golden brass it is made of is very well preserved, looking quite shiny and with no traces of rust. On the other hand, the swords blade also boasts a remarkable historic interest; it bears an engraved inscription, clearly legible, indicating that the sword was forged for a member of the Cuerpo de Guardias de la Persona del Rey Fábrica de Toledo Año 1816 (Personal Corps Guard of the Kings person Toledo Factory Year 1816). This is quite an interesting detail that turns the sword into a very special piece. The described D-guard protects the hilt, a very well preserved piece too. This part, bound to be grasped by the hand of the sword-carrier, preserves the original leather wrapping and twisted wire. The wrapping is in good condition and only shows a small flaw (logical if we consider the swords ancient age). On the other hand, the twisted wire that wraps the leather and keeps it in place is complete and in its place, as if the intervening years and past contents had not affected it at all. For its history and its past, this antique sword from the Personal Corps Guard of King Fernando VII will shine in the collection of any lover of ancient weapons. Measurements: Sword: 38.5 in / 98 cm. Blade: 33.8 in / 86 cm.
