Antique American fraternity sword made in the USA circa 1900, in very good condition and with its original scabbard. This is a ceremonial weapon which once belonged to a member of one of the different fraternities founded in the United States of America in the 19th and 20th centuries. The sword that we can see in the images stands out for its appealing decoration and the gorgeous shape of the hilt. This part is somewhat loose, but this does not interfere with the swords great look, which is still a very decorative piece. The hilt is shaped as a cross and shows off a medieval-inspired design with the initials HW in the center. These letters can also be seen in the blade and probably stand for the original owners name and second name. The pommel is made of steel and depicts a warriors head with a helmet on which a small lion lies. At the cross we can see a figure of a second warrior wearing armor, holding a sword and a shield. At the scabbards locket here is a third figure which depicts Samson tearing down the temples columns. The swords blade is decorated with engraved symmetrical motifs, and just below the hilt we can see the manufacturers name and city: THE M.C.I. ILLEY & CO. COLUMBUS OH. This striking antique American fraternity sword will shine in the most ambitious and special collection. Measurements: Blades Length: 71 cm. Total Length: 90 cm.
