Amazing and rare South Asian infantry sword made circa 1900 and in really good condition. Though we cannot be completely sure, it probably belonged once to a soldier of the regular Vietnamese or Cambodian armies. It's just a guess. The sword stands out for its excellent condition and its gorgeous hilt. This mounts a dark solid-wooden grip with four grooves which preserves the original twisted wire. But surely the most beautiful part is the brass D-guard. Outside the hilt, this part is shaped like a beast or a dragon with hand-engraved scales and decorative details. The cross-guard is embellished with openwork engraved motifs, while the D-guard is a lean, narrow and straight piece. The steel blade bears no decoration at all and remains shiny and even, with no remarkable signs of wear. Last but not least, the scabbard bears a black blued finish and is finely preserved too. For its original quality and gorgeous hilt, this rare South Asian infantry sword will stand out in a collection of high-end antique weapons. Dimensions: Blade Length: 27.56 in / 70 cm. Total Length: 32.28 in / 82 cm.ES-D-097
