Superb French sapper-firemans sidearm sword model 1855, made in France circa 1860 and in very good condition. The sapper-firemen corps (Sapieurs-Pompiers) was a French military corps whose units were assigned firefight duties from 1833 on. The sidearm which can be seen in the images is part of the official uniform worn by the members of the corps, and though being such an ancient piece it has survived to our days in fine condition. It is a beautifully weapon with a sober design, with steel blade and brass hilt. The blade looks polished and shiny, with no traces or rust and greatly preserved. The same can be said about the hilt, with tapered grip and straight cross-guard. The sidearm comes with its original dark leather scabbard, in good condition and with brass chappe. This amazing French sapper-firemans sidearm model 1855 is an exclusive piece, of great interest for any collector of old-time military antiques. Dimensions: Blade Length: 17.72 in / 45 cm. Total Length: 22.44 in / 57 cm.
