Antique French sapper-firemans sidearm sword model 1855, made in France circa 1860 and in good condition. The sidearm is really well preserved and comes with its original scabbard, made of black leather with the original brass chappe. These weapons were part of the official uniform worn by the Sapieurs-Pompiers, a military corps composed of sapper-firemen who were assigned firefight duties from 1833 on. This is a simple, powerful and attractive piece, with a timeless design that provides it with a remarkable decorative potential. The steel blade looks polished and shiny and so does the brass hilt; both are in good condition though being more than one hundred years old. The scabbard is well preserved too; the leather does show logical signs of the trace of time and use, which only provide this article with authenticity and charisma.
