Amazing antique sword for French navy officer model 1837, made in France in the 19th century and in fine condition. The sword shows off a great design, with finely preserved steel blade and brass hilt. The hilt is wonderfully decorated with embossed motifs: the decoration is an intricate openwork design composed of climbing plants and the navy emblem, an anchor. The cross is trimmed by a quillon shaped as a snakes or marine dragons head. The black wooden grip is partially covered by an embossed brass piece and trimmed by a brass pommel. The blade bears the manufacturers name, engraved by hand: Coulaux & Cie. Klingenthal. The black leather scabbard follows replicates the great design of the sword. It mount brass ring, locket and chappe, the locket being adorned with the French navy anchor. The leather has been restored and was incorporated later, but the rest of the parts of the scabbard and the sword are entirely original from the time.
