Antique French Bayonet for Gras Rifle Mod. 1874. France, 1876

Fantastic French bayonet for Gras rifle mod. 1874, made in France and in good condition. This attractive piece is well preserved and comes with a steel scabbard. The scabbard bears the engraved inscription FOX and the serial number 40559 at the locket. The swords blade is in excellent condition; at the blade we can see a fine hand-engraved inscription with the factorys name and the date of forging: Manufacture dArmes de St. Etienne, Juin 1876. Under the cross-guard we can also see a mark with number 5. The hilt mounts wooden grip plates trimmed by a brass pommel, steel cross-guard with clamp (to attach the bayonet to the rifles barrel) and hooked quillon, typical of this pieces. The quillon bears the engraved serial number 9615. This exceptional French bayonet for Gras fusil mod. 1874 in a real collectors piece, complete and original from the time.
