Fascinating and rare Swiss faschinenmesser pioneer sidearm mod. 1842, made in Switzerland and in amazing condition. These weapons are called faschinenmesser as they were intended to cut fascines, bundles of branches used to build trenches, dam and similar structures in war times. The weapon mounts a serrated greatly-preserved steel blade with the inscription WAFFENFABRIK NEUHAUSEN and the Swiss cross engraved under the cross-guard. At the other side we can see the serial number 29329 07. The hilt is made of brass and is also in good condition. The sidearm comes with an ancient scabbard made of leather in different shades (black, light brown and dark brown) and with brass chappe. The scabbard bears the engraved inscription GOTTL. LUTHY 04 OB. ENDIGEN and a mark with the Swiss cross and a B letter. For its excellent condition and ancient age, this rare Swiss faschinenmesser pioneer sidearm 1842 is a piece worthy to belong to a museum of military history.
