Rare antique Spanish sword for line cavalry used in the Spanish War of Independence (Napoleonic Peninsular Wars), made in Spain circa 1810 and in good condition. This sword is quite a special weapon, probably made with the blade of a Scottish basket hilt sword and a French-style cavalry hilt, which was also used by the Spanish army. In those times, in Spain were made some swords and sabers with blades from other countries (mainly English and French), though today they are very rare and difficult to find. The hilt is made of brass and mounts a leather-covered grip with the original twisted wire. The leather is somewhat worn and the wire is loose at some places, something otherwise logical in such an antique saber which was surely used in the battlefield. The blade is finely preserved, polished and shiny, and is adorned with an engraved motto usually found in antique Spanish swords: No me saques sin rason / No me enbaines sin honor (Do not draw me without reason / do not sheathe me without honor). The brass scabbard is original too and remains in good condition. This rare antique Spanish sword for cavalry line used in the Spanish War of Independence is a unique piece, superb and with a highly interesting past for any history lover. Dimensions: Blade Length: 31.88 in / 81 cm. Total Legth: 37.40 in / 95 cm.
