Antique Silver Cruet Set and Bell. Gonzalez Quintana, Cadiz, Spain. Circa 1830

Antique silver cruets and bell made by Gonzalez Quintana in Cadiz, Spain, circa 1830 and very well preserved. This beautiful set for the celebration of Eucharist stands out for its stylized and sober design, and also for its quality confection. It is a really antique piece, nearly 200 years old, that nevertheless has survived to our days in amazing condition. The cruets contain the Wine and the water for the celebration of Mass; the bell was used in the old days to mark the most important moments of the ritual. The cruets which we can see in the images have curved handles shaped and embossed like volutes; the one for the wine is adorned with a bunch of grapes at the edge of the lid, while the one for the water has some kind of fish or aquatic animal on seaweed. The cruets and the bell stand on their original silver tray; if we turn the tray upside down we will see some hallmarks, among them the mark of González Quintana, one of the finest silversmiths from Cadiz in the early 19th century.

These fine antique silver cruets and bell made by González Quintana make up a real collector’s piece, as beautiful as special.
