Antique British mantel clock with Westminster quarter chime, made in London in the 1920s-30s and in very good condition. As well as boasting a great look, the clock works really fine and strikes the quarters with the typical English chime. The box is made of solid Wood and bears a great ebony-like finish, whose bright black color makes a fine contrast with the brass decorative details. The box is shaped like a temple, with rectangular body, brass legs and a crowning piece adorned with four brass pinnacles and a handle. The front door keeps the original glass pane which let us see the lovely dial. The dial is made of brass and has white-enamel hour ring with black Roman numerals and black Louis XV style hands. Framing the hour ring there are four triangular brass decorative details composed o scrolls and leaves and in perfect condition. At the door, over and under the dial we can see more brass embellishments of similar style. At the sides there are two brass keyholes. The crowning piece has a brass embellishment too, containing a face or mask. The boxs sides have rectangular openings closed with red fabric and brass openwork plates. These openings let the sound out when the clock strikes the quarters. The fabric and the metal are finely preserved. If we open the rear door we will reach the clocks movement, with a fine brass pendulum bob standing out. The metal plate has the engraved manufacturers name, SMITHS, founded in 1851, in capital letters. This awesome antique British mantel clock with Westminster quarter chime is an exceptional piece, decorative and authentic. Dimensions: Width: 11 in / 28 cm. Height: 14.2-15.75 in / 36-40 cm.
