Amazing French mantel clock, very antique and with a great aesthetical and material value. This is an elegant and stylish clock made circa 1870 with wonderful materials such as bronze and tortoiseeshhell. The piece boasts a nice modernist design with a slightly asymmetrical shape and a structure made up by curved volutes in the corners, adorns and legs. The combination of the light yellow bronze and the dark red tortoiseshell is highly appealing, making up a great contrast that increases considerably the items beauty. As stated before, the metal structure is made of golden bronze. It is composed of airy volutes that joint to make up some kind of box or cage whose sides are closed by wooden planks covered by tortoiseshell plates. The clock boasts a highly smart silhouette, with a narrower bottom part and a wider top, and standing on four curved bronze legs. The big white porcelain face stands out at the front; it is in great condition and bears big black Roman numbers and smaller Arab numbers for the minutes. The numbers are located into their respective boxes. The face is protected by a glass pane.At the rear, the wooden box has a lid that can be removed in order to let us reach the movement. It has an important pendulum bob with a serial number engraved in the metal: 44559. Just below this cipher we can see an inscription: 8 (or S) ts. S.G.O. On the other hand, the mechanism has another number; 8588. The clock keeps the original key designed to wind it up, and the movement has been conveniently adjusted for its perfect operation. This great clock from the time of Napoleon III is an exclusive piece because of its lovely design, the delicate materials it is made of and its unbelievable condition.Measurements: Width: 260 mm. Height: 480 mm.
