Beautiful French mantel clock completely made of bronze and manufactured in 1900. This is an exclusive and fine-looking piece which has survived to our days in excellent condition. The clock works perfectly, just like the first day of use, and its movement has been fully revised and adjusted. This is an ancient article, more than a hundred years old, that looks as beautiful as when it was made. The box is made of bronze with white face; it is rectangular in shape and is adorned with a lot of embossed details and engraved volutes, also made of the shiny and solid metal. The whole is elegant and stylized, and the clock stands on four delicate legs. The front ones are carved in the shape of lion claws.Just over the bronze box we find an urn-shaped detail that crowns the clock. It is covered by two metal strips which connect it to the rest of the parts. The sides are also beautifully decorated, and in the middle we can see two noble lion heads with elaborated rings in their mouths. The face is big in size and is also surrounded by decorative volutes and embossed details which enhance its beauty. It is white with elegant black numbers, and in the middle it bears a fine decorative detail. The needles are made of black metal and boast a sober design. The face is in excellent condition and shows no hairlines or visible flaws. At the rear, the box has a round door through which we can reach the movement. This is in perfect condition and preserves all its original pieces and gears. We can see the serial number of the clock engraved in the metal: 32912, as well as a circular mark with the name of the maker: JAPY FRERES & CIE MED. D. HONEUR. Japy Freres firm was founded in 1771 by Georges Frederic Japy, better known as Frederic Japy and who was an apprentice with Jean Jacques Perrelet. The factory manufactured not only movements but also cooking utensils, chains, locks, toys, typewriters, etc. Normally the firm only made the movements for the clock, which eventually were named after the clockmaker company. This lovely French mantel clock is fit to decorate a shelf or cabinet in a classical room, where it will surely shine out.Measurements: Width: 210 mm.
