Clock with Corbel, 1930s

This striking and decorative mantel clock is a very special piece as it comes with a wall stand designed to exhibit the clock in the most adequate way. It is a French set made circa 1900, with an eight days Pris movement and chiming the hours and the half hours, in very good condition and perfect working order. The clocks movement has been carefully cleaned and adjusted and nowadays it provides an impeccable operation. The box and the bracket also look great and the set is a beautiful and decorative quality item, designed to embellish a smart and stylish home.Both the clock and the bracket are made of solid wood and bronze. This last piece is composed of a wooden plank with milled edges and a bottom bronze piece, beautifully engraved in the shape of a figurehead depicting a childs face surrounded by a series of garlands and drapes symmetrically disposed. The clock is similar in style, with the wood dyed in the same color of the bracket: a curious and remarkable bright red tone, very rare and original, that lets us see the attractive veneer thanks to its transparency.The red dye that decorates both pieces is protected by a satin finish that has been restored, so the set shines in all its splendor. The clock is also decorated with some bronze details at the front and the top. These details match the brackets bronze base and show a top medal crowned by a piece depicting two birds symmetrically disposed. The rest of the piece is decorated with fine vegetal-inspired motives and volutes, all of them made of hand-engraved bronze. On the other hand, the movement is signed with the inscription A LA GERBE DOR - A.DEFIS 86 RUE DE RIVOLI, under which we can see a symbol depicting a sun with a face. Over the inscription we can see the serial number 8572 engraved in the metal. The movement is a Vincentti & Cie, which won a silver medal in 1855.This mantel clock and bracket sets beauty, as well as its good working order, turn it into the perfect piece to shine on the wall of an aristocratic room.Measure (clock on bracket): Width: 230 mm.
