Mantel Clock, ca. 1890.

German big-sized Junghans mantle clock made in the late 19th century (circa 1890) for export. This wonderful clock grabs our attention because of its impressive dimensions and the great condition it is in. The clock has a long-term running reserve and chimes the hours and the halves, being as beautiful as when it was originally made more than one hundred years ago. The box is made of turned and carved solid wood with some parts of real mahogany. This noble wood boasts a lovely reddish golden tone with different gradations that go from dark red to light ochre. All the clocks parts are perfectly preserved with no worn or missing parts.The clock was made by Junghans, a firm whose whole name is Junghans Uhern GmbH and that is currently Germanys largest watch and clock manufacturer. Located in Scramberg (Baden-Württenberg), the company was created by Erhard Junghans together with his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler. Then it was known as Junghans and Tobler. We know this is a Junghans clock because when opening the boxs rear door we can see an embossed motive in the movement depicting two crossed arrows: the logo of Junghans brand. The movement is made of brass and iron and works perfectly, just like new. Inside the rear door there is a paper label with the number 3104. The boxs decoration is austere and stylish with grooved cylindrical columns on both sides and turned details crowning the clock. The door that protects the face is made of beveled glass and is intact. The face itself is beautiful, being made of golden metal with engraved-brass details and a silvery metal circular fringe on which decorative black Arabic numbers stand out. The needles are also black, sober in design and with fine framework points. Overall this clock is an amazing piece because of its ancient age, good working order and nice design. It will surely be the protagonist in any room, where it will shine over the rest of the decoration. Measurements: Width: 240 mm. Height: 410 mm.
