Awesome antique manuscript made in Germany in the 18th century. This is a unique handwritten copy with a wonderful cursive black calligraphy and headlines in gothic lettering, written in red and green ink. The book is composed of hundreds of manuscript pages with five religious etching scattered among them. The original period binding, the etchings and the manuscript pages are very well preserved, making up a highly interesting item for any collector of antique books. On the first page there is a handwritten dedicatory in German, while the following page shows the books title written in gothic red lettering inside a black oval shape printed on the paper. The work is about Christ as stated in the titles beginning (Der Christ). The etchings depict religious figures and characters in different sceneries and with their own symbols, all of them printed in black and white with a great attention to detail. The manuscripts binding is really appealing and remains in excellent condition. It is covered of black leather with many stamped and gold-plated decorative motives. These motives depict flowers and volutes, creating a lovely waved frame on both covers. The books spine is also stamped and gold-plated, with the raised bands decorated with parallel diagonal lines and the sections bearing plants and volutes. Inside, the covers are lined with a fine hand-painted paper in the same colors as the writing: red and green. The print combines net and flower horizontal fringes. This unique manuscript is an ancient jewel that will shine in the best collection of antique books. Measurements: Width: 7.8 in / 16 cm. Height: 6.2 in / 20 cm.
