The History of Don Quixote de la Mancha, in edition of the year 1850, XIX century, published in Paris by Gustave Havard. In very good condition, it contains a total of 120 engravings by Tony Johannot. The covers are lined with lilac paper with touches of yellow and green. The spine, in purple tinted leather, displays the title "Don Quichotte de la Manche" in gilt stamping. It has nerves, the binding is strong and the interior is in good condition, without humidity or oxidation and with a very evident whiteness of the paper. This is the second translation of the famous work Don Quixote de la Mancha into French, although it is the first time that it has been translated in its entirety, as its translation had previously been divided into two parts (César Oudin, in 1614, and Francois de Rosset, in 1618). The version offered corresponds to the translation made by Filleau de Saint-Martin in 1677-1678. Commissioned by the Parisian publisher Barbin, Filleau de Saint-Martin translated from Spanish into French Miguel de Cervantes' famous work Don Quixote de la Mancha, which was published in 1677 in four volumes. However, he altered the end of the work so that Don Quixote, instead of dying, would be cured of his illness, and Filleau de Saint Martin then wrote a continuation in French, with the title Historia del admirable don Quijote de la Mancha (History of the admirable Don Quixote of La Mancha). This work remained unfinished because of his death, and was continued in the early 18th century by Robert Challe. Size: 30.5 cm high, 22.5 cm wide and 2 cm thick.
