Antique briquet saber for infantry sergeant model 1879, made in Toledo (Spain) in 1884 and in great condition. The weapon that we can see in the images mounts a polished steel blade and a fine brass hilt. Both parts remain in excellent condition and show scarcely any signs of the trace of time, preserving their sober beauty. The briquet saber comes from in France and was the most used weapon by the Napoleonic troops which invaded the Iberian Peninsula in the early 19th century. It seems that Napoleon himself popularized its use and extended it to infantry troops. According to the historian Rafael Gonzalez, this weapon was mainly used to functional duties though it could also be a good companion in the battlefield. The saber that we can see in the images bears the mark FABRICA DE TOLEDO engraved in the metal, together with the date 1884. Every lover of antique weapons will appreciate the powerful presencie of this antique briquet saber for infantry sargeant, original from the 19th century and greatly preserved.
