Wonderful antique telegraph in perfect condition, made in Switzerland in the 19th century. This curious and original device was made by G. Hasler and has been fully restored, preserving all its original components in great order. The telegraphs mechanical operation is impeccable, while the electrical system needs a small wielding work in order to repair one of the connections. Nevertheless, after this reparation the machine will very probably be in working order, just as when it was made. Aesthetically this is a highly decorative and original piece, whose intrinsic value is enhanced by its ancient age.The telegraph is attached to a solid oak wooden base. This piece is in very good condition and boasts the lovely golden tone and deep veneer typical of that noble wood. The base is made up of a wide plank with two more wooden pieces attached to its top: the telegraph machine goes on top of the bigger one, while the key that the user has to hit in order to transmit the signal is screwed to the smaller plank. The machines body is composed of a solid rectangular silvery metal box, crowned by the reel with the paper tape where the Morse messages are printed. In the body we can see an engraved inscription: G. HASLER BERN, with the name and city of the manufacturer. Under these words we find the serial number, 5853.The telegraph keeps all its original components: the lever, a crank with wooden handle, the reel All the pieces are combined in order to form a functional and nice device. The telegraph also keeps the original wire and the black bakelite knob for the lever, in quite good condition. G. Hasler stands for Gustav Hasler of Bern, Switzerland. This company was founded by Dr. Gustav A. Asler and Heinrich Albert Escher and traces its origin to 1865 from the Eidgenössischen Telegraph works. The company produced telegraphs and PTTs for more than fifty years and they were used not only by the Swiss Post Office, but also by the Swiss Army and Swiss railroads. This great telegraph is a real collectors item that will delight any nostalgic of the first time of modern telecommunications.Measurements: Width: 410 mm.
