Large Telegraph Table, 1880

Amazing telegraph. An exceptional piece that has survived to our days in great condition in spite of its ancient age. The telegraph was made in 1880 and its printer is in perfect working order. It is a wonderfully looking and high-quality article with a remarkable decorative potential. The telegraph is attached to a base made of solid mahogany wood, whose deep golden red tone and the flame-shaped veneer typical of this material look as shiny and lovely as the first day of use. The base contains a slim drawer where the paper roll is inserted and is attached to a stand designed to be inserted in a bigger table.The box that stores the galvanometer (a device designed to detect and measure electric current) is also made of mahogany wood. The keys button and a similar one (located in a central device) are made of this beautiful wood too. This second button is beside another similar piece but in this case made of white bakelite, maybe a fusible. The telegraph has a three-roll and double paper-mounting system.This great instrument keeps all its original components in wonderful condition with no traces of rust and no worn or missing parts. The wood is very good-looking and so are the brass pieces. There are two inscriptions engraved in different parts of the telegraph: one says C.Lorenz A. G. Berlin Nº 17102 and is in the cylindrical device with glass lid. This inscription indicates that the galvanometer was made in Germany. The other inscription is located in the printer, and composed by the words SL. N. TSs Fabrik Kjøbenhavn Nº 6238 and is located in the telegraphs main body, just under the two paper rolls; it reveals that the Morse machine comes from Denmark.This telegraph from the late 19th century is a great piece, highly decorative and with great historical interest.
