Elegant Kienzle Automatic Clock with International Time. Germany, 1960s

This vintage clock boasts a really attractive design. It is an automatic model made by the brand Kienzle in the 1960s, in perfect condition and working order. This clock tells the time in all the countries of the world, thanks to a semicircular scale located at the bottom part of the face. The movement is mechanical, just like ancient clocks, but with a peculiar feature: it has an electrical system that winds the movement. This system was used by the automatic clocks made before the development of electrical movements.At the top of the beautiful face we can see the manufacturers name, Kienzle, printed in golden lettering. It comes with the word AUTOMATIC referring to the kind of movement. The watchmaker company Kienzle Uhren GMBH is one of the eldest and most prestigious makers in Germany. It was founded in 1822 by the Schlenker family, but in 1883 Jakob Kienzle became part of the family and the company. In 1897 Jakob became the sole owner of the firm and it changed its name for just Kienzle, just as it is currently known. This clocks vintage design is elegant and decorative, but also practical. It consists on an ample mat-brass circular face that stands on a straight and simple base of the same material. The face is white and is decorated with a golden map of the world, with the different time zones separated by vertical lines. At the bottom we can see the scale that indicates the time (of the day and of the night) corresponding to each zone. Last but not least, the face also has the classic numbers and hands, made of polished brass and boasting a simple and stylish design.
