Beautiful antique mantel clock in marble and bronze. France, Circa 1870

This amazing piece is a ormolu marble mantel clock in good condition and great working order. It is a very antique article that comes from France and was made in the late 19th century (circa 1870). The rich and quality materials the box is made of is a remarkable feature: we can see pieces made of three different types of marble (white, black and dark red) embellished with ormolu (mercury-gilt bronze) details. All the component parts are original from the period and remain in great condition. The clocks movement has been checked and tuned in order to guarantee an optimal working order. The face is big in size and circular in shape. It is white with black Arab numbers. The lovely and original design of the hands is quite remarkable; they are made of ormolu too and stand out on the white background. Under the hands we can see these words: Levol a Paris, written in black ink. At the back of the clock there is a small door behind which the movement rests. The movement is made of golden brass and bears the manufacturers mark with the inscription CHARTIER & MARCUS PARIS. We can also see the serial number 9170 clearly engraved in the brass surface. The clocks box is architectural in style and clearly neoclassic-inspired. Its temple shape is balanced and stable, while the different colors of the marble pieces provide the design with a light and attractive touch. The base and the crowning piece are made of white marble; the four columns are made of dark red marble, and the bases of the columns are made of black marble. Marble has few light hits just below the face that can be seen in the pictures. The whole set is enlightened with ormolu details: branches, acorns and filigree fringes composed of vegetal motives can be seen everywhere. The combination of the two textures (stone and metal) creates a sumptuous and rich piece with an undeniable charm. The clock is complete, with pedulum and key, and in good working conditions.
