Imposing pendulum mantel clock made by Junghans in 1908. The cloclk was manufactured in Germany and remains in excellent condition and working order. It is made of hand-carved solid mahogany wood and has been thoroughly restored. The pendulum movement includes Westminster chimes, and has been fully cleaned and overhauled so today it works perfectly. The mahogany wooden case in decorated with lovely hand-carved fringes, scallops and pillars which make up an elegant piece with a great neoclassical look. The wood is in amazing condition and has been protected with a nice handmade French-polish finish that provides it with a subtle and warm glow. The clocks dial is spectacular. It is made of metal and is surrounded by fine brass embossed details. In the centers, the black Roman numerals stand out on a white circle with a brass disk in the center. At the top there are two small dials that make it possible to regulate the movement speed and choose the silent option. At the back of the clock there is a small door that let us reach the movement. Engraved in the brass surface we can see the Junghans logo, an 8-pointed star with the brand name Junghans inside accompanied by the inscription A08. For its beauty, stately presence and lovely sound, this antique Junghans mantel clock will shine in the most special decoration. Measurements: Width: 13.7 in / 35 cm. Height: 17.9 in / 44.5 cm.History of Junghans On 15 April 1861 Erhard Junghans created the company "Junghans und Tobler" together with his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler in Schramberg. The company began to produce wristwatches in 1927. Beginning in the 1950s, the Bauhaus designer Max Bill created clocks and watches for Junghans and the relationship lasted many years. A remarkable example of his work is a wall clock he designed in 1956/57 that is in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art (New York). In 1962 Bill also created mechanical wristwatches for Junghans impressive timepieces, not only for their aesthetic design, but also their precision. In the late 1980s, Junghans introduced the first radio-controlled table clock on the world market. In 1990 the first radio-controlled wristwatch, called the MEGA 1, followed. In 1995 Junghans presented a solar powered watch with ceramic housing. Together with the Japanese clock maker Seiko, Junghans developed a globally oriented wristwatch that automatically sets the local time in respective time zones.
