Gorgeous antique Junghans wooden desk clock chiming the hours and the halves, perfectly restored and in excellent working order. It was made in Germany in 1900 and remains in great condition; the movement has been fine-tuned and cleaned by a clockmaker. The casing is made of solid-mahogany wood and preserves the original French-polish finish, which has regained its warm glow after the restoration and enhances the fine reddish brown color of the wood. The casing is also decorated with hand-carved and turned elements that create stylish motifs and a lovely crowning piece. The top piece is composed of a semicircular element with two symmetrical scallops, crowned by a vase-shaped piece and flanked by two airy pinnacles. The clocks dial is made of brass and is embellished with fine ormolu details. The one on top of the dial contains an angels face. It bears black Arab numerals and metal Louis XV hand, made of black metal with a subtle bluish patina. At the back of the casing we will find a small door that makes it possible to reach the movement. Engraved on the metal surface we can see the Junghans logo, with the brand name and a J inside an 8-pointed star. This gorgeous Junghans wooden mantel clock chiming the hours and the halves will shine in a stately dining room. Measurements: Width: 11.8 in/ 30 cm. Height: 21.25 in / 54 cm. The company began to produce wristwatches in 1927. Beginning in the 1950s, the Bauhaus designer Max Bill created clocks and watches for Junghans and the relationship lasted many years. A remarkable example of his work is a wall clock he designed in 1956/57 that is in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art (New York). In 1962 Bill also created mechanical wristwatches for Junghans impressive timepieces, not only for their aesthetic design, but also their precision. In the late 1980s, Junghans introduced the first radio-controlled table clock on the world market. In 1990 the first radio-controlled wristwatch, called the MEGA 1, followed. In 1995 Junghans presented a solar powered watch with ceramic housing. Together with the Japanese clock maker Seiko, Junghans developed a globally oriented wristwatch that automatically sets the local time in respective time zones.
