Electrical resistances and box equipment for electromedicine treatments. This is a German device made in the early 20th century (circa 1900) and in very good condition. The article is composed of a big wooded box containing the batteries that give life to the system. The batteries are flat. At the top we can see the complex control panel with the plugs to connect the devices designed to apply the low-intensity current. The electromedicine, also known as bioelectricity, is a controversial medical therapy discovered centuries ago. In the year 46 b.C, a man called Scribonius Largus was famous because he treated certain diseases applying electric current emitted by electric fish. This practice kept on during the following centuries, using fishes like the electric eel. In the middle of the 18th century the fish were changed by electric devices that could generate the current using batteries, so the therapy became more secure and controlled. The electromedicine lived its particular golden age in the 19th century and was highly popular to treat nervous disorders. The box that contains the equipment is made of light golden mahogany wood, solid and well preserved. The outside finish is the original one; it shows some signs of the trace of time and use that provide the article with authenticity and history. If we open the lid we will see the mechanism, composed of a wooden plank supporting some black-enameled metal pieces with a lot of chrome-plated devices and plugs. There is a big roller with an engraved inscription: PATENT 70699. This serial number is also engraved in a metal plate attached to the front of the box that also contains information about the manufacturer. On both sides of the device we find two beautiful hand-engraved metal handles decorated with modernist designs. This electromedicine devices impressive look together with its authenticity turn it into a very special piece that any collector will love to own. Measurements (closed): Width: 12.9 in / 33cm.
