Attractive set of chirurgical tools for trepanations, made in Germany in the 1930s-40s. The set is complete and comes in its original wooden case, very well preserved. The tools are made of steel and remain in good condition, with almost no signs of rust of wear. The metal pieces bear the manufacturers name, HAUPTNER, engraved in their surface. This name is also printed in the label stack to the cases front side. This label bears the following inscription: H. HAUPTNER Instrumentenfabrik BERLIN SOLINGEN. It corresponds to Hans Hauptner, an entrepreneur that in 1857 founded a workshop in Berlin to manufacture medicine and veterinary tools. With the trace of time the business grew and in 1916 a factory was built in Solingen to meet the demands of the period. Today the company still exists after more than 150 years of history. This set includes a trephine, the hammer-shaped tool that we can see in the center of the case. This tool comes with two core drills, one of them mounted in the trephine and the other in its corresponding compartment. The set includes three more pieces designed to drill, deepen or break bones. All of them are stored in a discreet and elegant wooden case in quite good condition. The tools can be well organized in their respective compartments; these compartments are gaps carved in the wood and shaped like the tools, so each one can be put in its right place. The wood is well preserved and shows no stains, cracks or relevant flaws. Complete and antique, this curious trepanation set is an unusual and exclusive piece.Measurements (Open Case): Width: 10 in / 25.5 cm. Depth: 5.9 in / 15 cm.
