This amazing ophthalmic surgery tool set, made circa 1900, comes from England and is complete, with all the tools in excellent condition. The set is composed of twelve precision tools with bone handles and very well preserved. They are delicate and high-quality pieces. The case where the set is stored is also the original one and has survived to our days in good condition too. At the boxs edge we can see the inscription J. WEISS & SON, 287 OXFORD ST., LONDON printed in golden lettering and clearly legible. It corresponds to John Weiss & Son, surgical instrument makers that worked in London between the 18th and 19th centuries. The firm was founded by John Weiss in 1787. Weiss was an Austrian master cutler and instrument maker who stablished in London, where he became highly renowned. In fact, the Weiss were appointed Razor Makers to the King by William IV and many of his instruments bore the Royal Arms on the handles. These delicate tools have all beautiful bone handles, in good condition and with no stains or cracks. They bear the word WEISS engraved in the handles. The metal parts are made of steel and are softly curved and sharpened, being highly-precision tools. On the other hand, the containing case is outside covered by black leather and inside lined with red velvet. Both materials are well preserved. The case also keeps the original golden brass shutting hooks. Built by a prestigious maker and with a beautiful design, these ophthalmic surgery tool set deserves to belong to a wonderful collection of medical antiques.
