Outstanding antique mantel clock of very rare design, decorated with complicated Pompeian-style marquetry work and in very good condition. The clock comes from France, where it was made in the 19th century. The movement chimes the hours on a gong and has been thoroughly fine-tuned so today the clock works perfectly. The box has been submitted to a careful restoration process in order to show off the lovely look that we can appreciate in the images. The clock includes the original pendulum bob and key. The clocks curious shape is very appealing for its rare quality. Over the square-shaped base, the face stands on a narrow stem that provides the design a singular charm. The box bears four golden-metal legs, shiny and delicate. The mahogany wood the box is made of boasts a fine dark red color over which the light-colored marquetry work stands out. The marquetry is composed of a main central scallop-shaped motive, surrounded by Pompeian-style garlands. The clocks face is white and bears black Arab numbers. The black-metal hands are straight and simple. The face is framed by a golden brass ring connected to the original glass door. At the back of the clock we can see a brass circular door with a pink-silk inner lining. Behind this door we can see the delicate movement with an oval-shaped mark containing the initials G.B. & E. and the word PARIS engraved in the metal. For its original shape and undeniably quality, this amazing antique mantel clock is an exceptional item, both beautiful and fascinating. Measurements: Width: 6.6 in / 17 cm. Height: 12.2 in / 31 cm.
