Antique ear trumpet in great condition, a perfectly preserved foldable model in good working order. This nostalgic piece was made in the early 20th century (circa 1900) and remains in wonderful condition. The ear trumpet is composed of several telescopic pieces that hide one inside the other, just like a spyglass. This way, the user can carry the ear trumpet comfortably as it does not take much space. It is made of tobacco-brown bakelite and shows off an even and soft surface, just as if years had not passed over it. This antique ear trumpet is a charming and historic piece, worthy of be exposed in a showcase with original ancient medical instruments. Measurements: Mouths Width: 2.56 in / 6.5 cm. Length: 9.84 in / 25 cm.Ear Trumpets - History Ear trumpets were developed in the 17th century and they became highly popular items. It is believed that similar devices existed before, though there are only records of their use from that century on. The basic operation of ear trumpets is described in antique books such as the one published by Jean Leurechon in 1624. These pieces were made of different materials, with exclusive and expensive designs made of gold, silver and diamonds. The last company that manufactured ear trumpets, F. Rein & Son of London, disappeared in 1963.
