Superb antique French firemens helmet made of brass, dated in the late 19th century (circa 1880) and in very good condition. The helmet is complete except for the left side curved part, the symmetrical partner of the one preserved at the right and which is decorated with a scale-like engraved motif. The rest of the item is finely preserved and shows off a gorgeous decoration. At the top we can see a remarkable-looking brass crest attached to the helmet by a number of rivets made of the same material. The crest provides the helmet with height and nobleness. The front side of the item bears a complicated embossed decoration with a central shield containing a curious motif, a spherical bottle with flaming coming out of its mouth. The shield is surrounded by oak and straight leaves, among them we distinguish two axes. To the left, an inscription stands out: SAPEURS POMPIERS (sapper firemen). The helmet preserves the inner leather covering, somewhat worn by the trace of time and the use but still entirely original. This antique French firemens helmet is a very decorative piece, with the added interest of being an original item that was once used by a professional fireman.
