This elegant wall barometer is a very special piece because of the prestige of the brand that made it, its ancient age and good working order. It is a model made in 1900 by Fattorini & Sons, Bradford (England). The barometer has a hand-carved solid oak wooden box and boasts an excellent condition. The wood looks polished and soft, with all its moldings and carvings well preserved, and the face looks regular and even with no visible flaws. The movement works fine, turning this barometer into a decorative and functional item. At the bottom of the barometers face we can see the printed name of the manufacturer in black capital letters: FATTORINI & SONS. BRADFORD. This name corresponds to the firm founded by Antonio Fattorini in 1883 in the city of Harrogate. In 1850, Fattorini opened a shop in Bradford with two of his sons; this shop adopted the market name printed in this barometer. The brand started as a jewelry and silverware business (it is famous for having designed the FA Cup trophy, still in use), but later they also made clocks. In 1883 they launched the first ever chess clock comprising two linked pendulum clocks. Fattorini & Sons closed its doors in 2012. The barometers box, made of solid oak wood, is profusely decorated with hand-carved details. The motives are abstract, classical and symmetrically disposed. At the top the item is crowned by a fine detail with a central semicircle and two pommels flanking it. Under the crowning piece, the circular face occupies a great part of the design: it is white with black symbols and is framed by a golden brass ring. At the top we can read some words indicating the kind of weather: stormy, rainy, change, fair and very dry. There are also some adjectives corresponding to the humidity level and a scale. The barometer has a straight black hand and in the center of the face there is a circular gap that lets us see part of the movement. Any classy room will be even classier with this antique barometer, made by a prestigious brand and in perfect working order. Measurements: Width: 11 in/28 cm. Height: 15.7 in/40 cm.
